I work on to research projects with groups all around Canada, from my home in rural Nova Scotia. Since I work from a distance, I focus on writing and data analysis and other work that can be done on a computer or over the phone. My area of interest is in rural medical research.

While my job as Chair is more about running a team (i.e., the Department) to be as competitive as possible, my Professor job is about research and education. Much of my time is spent doing basic science (non-human) research into cardiovascular disease, how it develops and how we can fix it. This research takes multiple forms and requires me to bring in a lot of different areas of science. I also teach undergraduate and graduate students at Western about the cardiovascular system.
